The CEO of Bomarah Foundation, Hajia Bola Muse, has stated that the organisation aims at eradicating poverty from those living with disabilities and this can be achieved by skill acquisition and empowerment trainings.

She made the statement at a recently concluded enlightenment programme tagged “A Day with People Living with Disabilities” at her Liverpool Office in Apapa Lagos State.

Hajia Bola Muse emphasized that Bomarah Foundation, as a fully registered organization with support from both the Federal and State Governments, has been in the business of caring for the needy since the year 2002 in order to create opportunities for persons living with disabilities so they can make the best use of their lives.

The Chairman of the occasion, who also doubled as the Guest Speaker, Hon. Elijah Owolabi Adele, Chairman of Apapa Local Government Area, while speaking on the theme of the day, tagged: “Challenges of COVID 19 on People Living with Disabilities”, stated that people living with disabilities are more challenged with a low rate of survival during the pandemic, hence they should not be neglected.

He also commended the CEO of the Foundation, Hajia Bola Muse for remembering those living with disabilities at this period of economic downturn, encouraging others who have the financial capacity to emulate same. He added that God rewards such good deeds.

In the same vein, the Royal Father of the day Oba AbdulFatai Aremu Aromire, the Ojora of Ojora Land who stated that laudable efforts in bringing succor to the needy must be commended, commended the CEO of the Foundation and admonished those living with disabilities to stay safe during this period of a global pandemic because of their vulnerable situation.

Mr Obioha Ononogbu, National Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria stated that Government and Employee policies should be structured in favor of those living with disabilities.

He stated that anyone can be a victim of disability as his own was caused by a ghastly motor accident and he has since been bound on a wheel chair.

He further reiterated that those living with disabilities need to be properly integrated in the society and the onus lies on the government which through its policies that cut across every sector including provision of social amenities, should accommodate the needs of those living with disabilities.

Mrs Josephine Omololawho represented the Albinism Foundation in her appreciation to Bomarah Foundation solicited for help from the government and well-meaning Nigerians in the area of provision of sun screen lotions and payment for skin cancer treatments.

She stated that those suffering from Albinism die of skin cancer as a result of exposure to the sun since most of them cannot afford sun screen lotion.

She thereby appealed to Nigerians especially employers to stop the discrimination against Albinos so that they can have the financial capability to care for their skin which is expensive to maintain.

Palliatives of cash and foodstuffs were given to various clusters of those living with disabilities. They include the Association of the Deaf and Dumb, The Association of the Blind, The Spinal Cord Injury Association, The Association of Dwarfs, The Albinism Foundation, The Association of Those with Special Needs, The Association of Those Living with Leprosy, The Association of The Intellectual Disabled and the Association of the Physically Challenge.
