UN HEALTH AGENCY CALLS FOR WIDE INVESTMENT IN LOCAL RESEARCH

The United Nations health agency has called on countries to continue investing in local research aimed at developing a system of universal and affordable health coverage.

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered this statement from the documentaries on the event of “World Health report 2013: Research for Universal Health Coverage” Launch.

Christopher Dye, Lead author of the report and Director of the Office of Health Information, pointed out that all nations should be producers as well as consumers of research, adding that the creativity and skill of researchers are the backbone of academic and public health program.

He further emphasized on the need for a wide range of basic and applied research studies to accelerate the process of bringing scientists and decision-makers together to improve health service coverage.

WHO also encouraged that donors and national governments should support mechanisms for sharing information and data, to strengthen research training and institution and to measure progress against their own commitment to achieving universal health coverage.
