Ghana president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed surprise at reports which claimed that he was flown to the United Kingdom for treatment because he had positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In his first public comment on the issue on Tuesday, after his 14-day self-quarantine as a precautionary measure after he came into contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19, President Akufo-Addo said he was amazed about the media reports.
He said he has been in Ghana throughout his two-week isolation period.
President Akufo-Addo made the comment when he met with members of the Vehicle and Asset Dealers Union of Ghana on Tuesday [July 21, 2020].
President Akufo-Addo expressed appreciation to members of the union for showing interest in his welfare.
“I want to thank you for your interest in my welfare, I am fine and I am here. I was sitting in my room and I was told I was sitting in a plane that was heading for Oxford, and it's trajectory plotted on a map. I was amazed but there it is, this is the Ghana in which we live, thank you,” President Akufo-Addo said in response to well wishes from the Spokesperson of the Union, Mr Opoku-Agyemang.
The meeting which was at the instance of the President was to discuss concerns raised by the members about the new Automobile Development Policy at the Jubilee House on Tuesday.
Resumption of work
President Akufo-Addo resumed out-of-home work on July 20, 2020, after a 14-day quarantine which started from July 4, 2020.
The President went into self-isolation for 14 days as a precautionary measure after being exposed to a person who tested positive for the coronavirus.
He tested negative for the disease on two occasions before the quarantine and after the quarantine and worked from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House throughout the 14 days.
While in isolation, the President held two virtual meetings — government’s 80th Cabinet meeting and a meeting with his 2020 Campaign Communications Advisory Team, during which he urged the team to emphasize the need for adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols.
