Update: Lagos explosion reignited Monday – NNPC

The residual fire of a gas explosion in Lagos on Sunday evoked another pipeline fire in the Abule-Ado area in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation said Monday.

According to report, less than 20 persons have been confirmed dead and 25 others injured with more than 50 buildings impacted while several vehicles parked in the area were destroyed in the first explosion on Sunday.

NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, said the pipeline fire reignited at 05:10 am on Monday.

Kyari, however, said a combined team from the NNPC, the Lagos State Government as well as other first responders have effectively controlled the fire.

He added that steps have been taken to prevent a reignition.
