Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi sent a cable of congratulations to Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on the anniversary of Sudan’s Independence Day.

The Egyptian president also sent presidential official Mohamed Yehia to the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo, state’s Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Sunday.

January 1st marks the date when the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan gained independence and became the Republic of the Sudan.

Burhan visited Egypt in May for the first time since the ouster of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and met with President Sisi. During the meeting, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support to bring stability and safety to the Sudanese people, said Egypt’s presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement.

“He [President Sisi] voiced Egypt’s readiness to fully support the brothers in Sudan to overcome this stage in conformity with the aspirations of the Sudanese people away from external interventions,” Radi said.

President Sisi also affirmed his country’s keenness to accelerate the implementation of joint development projects between both countries, particularly in fields of electricity and railway.
