The news desk of CEOAFRICA.com received news from South Africa that not less than 16 schools were shut down by the education officials in Western Cape Province due to surge in gang violence.

Sources disclosed that at least 50 people are reported to have been wounded or killed after being shot in areas of Cape Town's Manenberg suburb in recent weeks.

According to the Provincial Premier Helen Zille, the national government has been asked to send in the army to help overwhelmed police.

It was gathered that the closure of schools was facilitated by teachers’ requests for safety at the region.

Our source also gathered from one of the victim’s mother, Aysha Ismail, who called for a greater police presence in Manenberg, to try and bring down the levels of violence.

She said her son was shot in an area where children play every day, although fellow members said he was a part of the gang called the Americans.
