Hon. Bobby Digi Olisa, a Nigerian-American recently elected as President of Nigerians In the Diaspora (NIDO), New York Chapter, has promised to galvanized the support of Nigerians in the United States of America (USA), to help support the development and advancement of Nigeria with special focus on youth empowerment through education and job creation.
Olisa who stated this during a chat with newsmen in Abuja said, he “considers creating employment opportunity a matter of national priority.”
According to him; “The National Bureau of Statistics in Nigeria provides records each year of about 1.8 million young Nigerians going into the labour market. Unemployment in Nigeria is estimated at 22 percent, and youth unemployment significantly soars higher at 38%, according to the World Bank.
“In addition to the detrimental effects of the nation’s economy, unemployment and poverty are the primary causes of addiction and substance abuse by teenagers and young adults in Nigeria according to NOI survey.
“With this information, I plan to organize and galvanize the support of Nigerians in the USA to help support the development and advancement of Nigeria with a special focus on youth empowerment.
“I plan to utilize my experience also to create educational and employment opportunities for young people in Nigeria. The programs are designed to improve the lives of 6000 persons.
“I am very optimistic that with strong support from the mass media, together we can amplify this initiative and perspectives that we have planned for our young women and men of Nigeria.
“We will propagate this to combat multifaceted and complex issues such as youth exploitation and unemployment. The development of the capacity of youth and job seekers with critical skills matching specific industries and leadership positions.
