2019 Town Talk Lecture: IGP Adamu to speak on ‘Security and Protection System: The Challenge of Policing in Nigeria’ today in Ibadan

The twentieth indigenous Inspector General of Police, Muhammmed A. Adamu will deliver a lecture on the theme “Security and Protection System: The Challenge of Policing in Nigeria” at the 2019 Town Talk Lecture in Ibadan, Oyo State today.

The IGP who was invited by the University of Ibadan Alunmi Association, UI Chapter will be shedding more light on the challenges of policing in Nigeria and how security and protection can better the development of the country.

The Police Chief, Adamu was born on 17th September 1961 and enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1986, after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello UniversityZaria with a bachelor's degree (Hons) in Geography. He also holds a master's degree in International Criminal Justice System from the University of Portsmouth, England.

Having joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1986, and trained at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos State, worked as the Divisional Crime and Administrative Officer at the Mgbidi Police Station in Mgbidi, Imo State, Adamu has served at many levels such as Officer in charge of General Investigation at the NPF Zone 6 Headquarters in Calabar,  appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commissioner of Police in Enugu State command between 2013 and 2015 among others. 

Adamu was appointed by president Muhammadu Buhari as the Acting Inspector General of Police on January 15, 2019, to replace the former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

His full appointment as the 20th indigenous Inspector General of Police was confirmed by Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President of Nigeria on the 23rd of May, 2019, and since then, Adamu has been ensuring that the insecurity challenges in the country is reduced to the minimum level.

He was awarded as the 2015 Best Commissioner of Police in community policing in Nigeria among other awards.

Meanwhile, it could be recalled that Inspector General of Police was the convener of the “Southwest Geopolitical Zone Security Summit” which was held at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan where he unveiled his security agenda for the region and discussed issues and strategies to be adopted in addressing the security challenges in the geopolitical zone.

However, in ensuring a proper arrangement for the Nigeria’s Police Chief in the pacesetter state today, the Commissioner of Police of the Oyo State Police Command, Shina T. Olukolu and his men are already at alert and ready to receive the August visitor in their midst today.

Also, Engineer Sarah A. Akintola, the Chairperson Planning Committee and Professor O. Adegbesan who is the UI Alumni Chapter Chairman, has ensured adequate preparation as everything is set for the event to hold successfully today.

Professor Abel IdowuOlayinka, Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan will be the Chairman of the lecture. He will also be leading other management team of the noble institution and the Alumni towards having a successful event.

The lecture will take place at the MichealOmolayole, Alumni Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State.
