Cross River State is to hold local government election on February 22, 2020.

The timetable for the election was released on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar by the Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Mike Ushie.

Ushie said CROSIEC was prepared to conduct the election three years after the last elected officials left the office at the end of their three-year tenure.

Some of the activities in the timetable include meeting with political parties on December 4, 2019, meeting with Heads of Local Government Administration on December 16, which also signals the commencement of sales of nomination forms till January 16, 2020.

Submission of list of candidates to CROSIEC by political parties will begin on December 11, and end on January 10, 2020, while meeting with stakeholders in each of the 18 Local Government Areas is scheduled to hold between December 17 and 23.

Also, nominations will close on January 9, 2020, while campaign by political parties will begin on February 7 and end on February 21, 2020, followed by the election on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
