Angola: Minister unveils over usd 19 million power plant in Bocoio

The Minister for Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges has on Tuesday inaugurated a power plant with electricity generation capacity of five megawatts in Bocoio municipality, coastal Benguela province.

The construction of the infrastructure lasted one year and cost USD 19.6 million, as part of renewable energy programme for remote areas.

The programme is initially expected to cover 12,000 inhabitants.

The incumbent minister announced the sector's plan to launch free electrical connections but added that each resident will have to pay the consumption of the product to ensure generation of income and enable investments in similar projects for other regions.

Bocoi municipality has 154.446 inhabitants.
