ACCRA, Ghana -                                                The Ghanaian Police Service has asked the public not to give up on the possibility of finding the missing Takoradi girls.

The police in a statement on Friday said it has retrieved some human remains from a septic tank suspected to be that of the kidnapped Takoradi girls.

The police say the bodies were retrieved from a septic tank in a building previously occupied by convict Samuel Odeoutuk Willis, who is standing trial for the kidnapping of the three Takoradi girls.

“The human remains, discovered late on Friday 2nd August 2019, have been sent to the forensic science laboratory for analysis and further investigation,” the police said.

Reports reveal that the police had conducted an extensive search at the suspect’s residence leading to the retrieval of body parts from septic tanks behind the house in question.

Even though the police administration has yet to confirm the said operation that took place earlier on Friday, local media outlets have spoken to residents who confirmed the retrieval of body parts in the suspects home.

“The Three Kidnapped Takoradi Girls” have been the subject of a sustained media and citizen campaign charging the police to get to the root of the matter.

It was gathered that all the girls were reportedly kidnapped in Takoradi, capital of the oil-producing region. “Taadi” is a short form for Takoradi. Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie (15 years) was last seen on December 21, 2018.

But before her incident, another 18-year-old Ruth Love Quayson had been kidnapped on the 4th of December. The other victim Priscilla Blessing Bentum also believed to be kidnapped was last seen on 17th August 2018.

#BringBackOurTaadiGirls months back trended on especially Twitter demanding concrete police action. The police and government have at different times give assurances of “action.”

Despite police assurances, arrests and prosecution on the issue, father of the 15-year-old victim said he believed his daughter had been killed, While the parents of the other girls have openly accused the police for toying with their emotions.

Meanwhile President Akufo-Addo had assured families of the missing girls that the security agencies are working hard to rescue them.

All efforts are being made to bring back the girls,” Nana Addo said during a tour to the Western Region.

“The fact that not much information has been out in the public domain does not imply that the state or security agencies are not working hard to ensure their safe return to their families,” he said.
