KAMPALA, Uganda -                                       A Ugandan police officer was on the night of July 31, 2019, murdered by an unknown assailant, right inside his own house.

Ayivuni identified as Corporal Santos Changom was reportedly cut several times in the head until he died, local newspaper, New Vision reported.

According to the newspaper, Santos has been on deployment in the area for only three weeks before meeting his death.

Josephine Angucia, the Police Public Relations Officer for West Nile region confirmed to New Vision on Friday. The scene of crime officers visited the home and picked the body for postmortem.

The body is still at Arua Hospital mortuary. The unknown assailant went away with the AK47 gun and two rounds of ammunition.

The police motorcycle and his phones were left in the house. The officer was alone at home at the time of the murder.

It is not clear what time he was murdered, but Changom was killed inside his house on the bed.

It was gathered that the deceased lived at the sub-county headquarters with a Special Police Constable SPC who was away for nigh duty and reported the next day only to find his boss murdered and his body lying on the bed on August 1, 2019.

He immediately informed the police at Arua CPS.

Angucia said the motive of the killing could have been to steal the gun because the assailants targeted the gun and left other properties in the house.

He, however, appeals to the public to alert the Police in case of any suspicious people around them. She says the gun could be used for terrorizing the community and it is important for the public to co-operate and give the information leading to the recovery of the gun.
