JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -                 South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has submitted an affidavit to the commission of inquiry into state capture explaining whether he has had relations with the Guptas or Bosasa.

The country's own media, Time Live, reported that Deputy Justice Raymond Zondo, while speaking on Friday, said that Ramaphosa had requested that the commission make the contents of the affidavit public.

“I thought that as president, he should be the first to give the commission his own affidavit ... The president accepted that this was necessary … He also undertook to encourage cabinet ministers that when they are approached by the commission in this regard, they should co-operate,” said Zondo.

He added that Ramaphosa had submitted his affidavit in early July.

The Gupta family is a wealthy Indian family, they Gupta own a business empire spanning computer equipment, media and mining, and has been the focus of widespread scrutiny because of its close ties to former South African president, Jacob Zuma during his Presidency.

The family migrated from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh to South Africa in 1993 to establish Sahara Computers.

While the Bosasa is a South African company specialising in providing services to government, most notably prison services. It is controversial for its involvement in corruption allegations exposed during the Zondo Commission of Inquiry.
