The Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola has disclosed that Chrisland University will partner with the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Ogun State branch as the management plan to introduce Medical Laboratory Science as one of their programmes by next session.

The Vice Chancellor made this known at the just concluded 2-Day Intensive conference, with the theme: ‘’Hands-On (Practical) Training on Molecular Biology’’ which was presented by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Ogun State branch in conjunction with the Chrisland University on 15th – 16th July, 2019 at the Biochemistry Laboratory Complex of the institution.

Prof Babalola said ‘’Molecular biology forms the basis of disease diagnosis as well as drug treatment. As a Pharmacist and researcher, I research into pharmacogenetics which looks at genetic differences in drug disposition. We individuals are genetically different and so can manifest differences in disease prognosis and the way we react to drugs. One dose does not fit all;

‘’My team and I reported the first ever full pharmacogenetics study on Nigerians and carried out a large population study on genetics of hypersensitivity of sulphonamides’’.

She further said ‘’We will be willing to partner with you (AMLSN), as we plan to introduce Medical Laboratory Science as one of our programmes in the next session.

 ‘’As a lifelong learner, I am willing to learn more from you at this conference and wish I can be with you to learn more’’ she said.

The VC applauded the Dean of Science and HOD Microbiology, Prof. Mrs. Akintokun for planning and coordinating the training workshop on the management behalf.

The conference featured lectures on the general principles and hands-on training to include: Nucleic Acid (DNA and RNA) Extraction from biological materials; Polymerase Chain Reaction; Gel Electrophoresis and Interpretation; Sample Preparation for Sequencing and Introductory Bioinformatics.

The conference was enlivened by the presence of many invitees from related field like; Medical Laboratory Scientists; Lecturers of Basic Medical Veterinary and Biological Sciences; Researchers and Pathologists and residents in pathology interested in sciences.
