Super Eagles vice-captain Ahmed Musa has highlighted the importance of  Nigeria win against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their AFCON 2019 quarterfinal encounter at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Super Eagles edged out Stuart Baxter’s men 2-1 in the keenly contested match.

Young winger Samuel Chukwueze opened scoring for the Super Eagles in the 27th minute, while Bongani Zungu equalised for the South Africans on the 70th minute with a header which had to be referred to VAR after the referee had earlier ruled the goal offside.

William Troost-Ekong, a minute before full time, netted the winner for Nigeria.

“The win is important. We knew it was not going to be easy. All we had in our mind was winning the game and we are glad to do that at the end of the day,” the winger told Completesports.com.

“We expected that we would win, but we have to keep our head calm. We scored the first goal but they equalized. We knew the goal would eventually come and had to be patient. Finally, it came in the 90th minute.

The atmosphere at the magnificent Cairo International Stadium was electrifying with home fans coming out in large numbers to support the Super Eagles.

An appreciative Musa thanks the teeming home fans for their massive support.

“They should keep supporting us. It’s good that Egyptian fans came out to support us. We want to say thank you to them for everything.”
