Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been wooing voters in the country’s Nebbi District to choose flag-bearers of their parties in the forthcoming Local Council V, LC5, Chairman by-elections.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Mr Ezrom William Alenyo in September last year. The race for the new LC5 chairperson has attracted three candidates including; Mr Emmanuel Urombi, National Resistance Movement, (NRM), Mr Vicky Onyai, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Mr George Uthuba (Independent).

While campaigning for the ruling NRM candidate on Tuesday in Parombi Town Council and Nebbi Municipality, President Museveni said the NRM government has done a lot to improve the welfare of Nebbi people, so they should support his candidate.

“Am here to campaign for NRM without being ashamed because NRM has solved many problems here. By 1961 there was no single secondary school in the whole Northern and Eastern Regions. But Nebbi District alone now has 25 Secondary Schools, 10 of which are government. NRM has got answers to many of your problems, that';s why I am here to ask you to vote NRM,” he said.

The President also spoke against the use of money to buy votes urging the electorates to instead elect people who will solve problems of the society.

“Some people think of minting money from a candidate but how can Shs1000 for 5 years help you? This is misuse of your vote,” he advised.
