A Federal High Court (FHC) in Lagos has been prayed to force President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint his ministers on time as provided by law so his second term administration can fully begin.

Kabir Akingbolu, a Lagos lawyer, according to report, filed a suit against the president and asked the FHC to declare that Buhari has failed in appointing the “requisite number of ministers as stipulated by law” and as such in breach of the law, Vanguard reports.

The law case also has the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) as a joint defendant which condemns the appointment delay.

The lawyer urged the court to ask President Buhari to resign if he is not ready to act according to the constitution. Stating that the president has gone against sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 constitution of the country which impose on him the duties for immediate appointment.

The lawyer also added that the delay has caused the country untold hardship, adding that many sectors in the country are unattended too.

A part of the court affidavit read: “It is customary of the 1st Defendant to neglect his duties as the president and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria… the president is weak and tardy in taking decisions on proper governance.

“This failure caused the nation untold hardships as the economy lacked directions to toe and make life easy for the citizens.”
