CGSDA 2019: Intellectual brains tackle Africa’s challenges in Abeokuta

The challenges facing the Africa continents has been dug out and solutions has as well been proffered at the just concluded International Pan-Africa conference that was held in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

The conference was organized by Chrisland University in partnership with CEOAfrica, which was graced by International professional bodies not excluding the acidemias, students, economists, and government representative from different African countries and world at large.

The theme “Challenges of Growth and Sustainable Development in Africa” was indeed harnessed by the speakers who did not only dug out the menaces disturbing the growth of the continents, but as well proffered solutions which are  believed to be the vehicle that will drive Africa to achieving her 2063 set agendas.

Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were Former Liberian Vice-President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Former World Bank Vice President, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, the Chancellor of Chrisland University, High Chief Dr Wilfred Awosika (OON), the  Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, Prof. Charles Binam Bikoi, Executive Secretary,  International Centre for Research and Documentation on African Traditions and Languages (CERDOTOLA), Vice Chancellor of Crown University, Prof. Sir Bashiru Armu, Delegates from Liberia, including ministers, commissioners, others.

In a press briefing prior to the conference, the EX-VP Boakai, said, although Africa is faced with numerous challenges that sets her GDP back, but he believed solely in the power of the continent.

“I always believe that we the Africans can do it, we have the ability, we are telling the world that we have the ability”.

“It is time we realize our potential, give our young people hope, to stay home and develop that potentials we have. I see prospects, opportunities in Africa and only African can make Africa develop” he said.

He also called on African leaders to begin to see the confidence in themselves, believe that they can build their countries with resources, love of their countries from their hearts, then African will begin to see the prospects in sustainable development.

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, in her presentation left no stone unturned while unearthing the challenges that hinders the continents from attaining the expected rank in the world’s GDP.

According to her, challenges ranging from poor economic development, high level of literacy, huge number of unemployment, poor education, climatic change, stunted children, security, access to health and water sanitation, high rate of out of school children, and other infrastructure deficit, are combating Africa as a continent.

She however lauded the “Africa continents for being a frontline as far as ICT revolution is concerned”.

“Whereas the other continents use phone as a mere instrument of communication, Africa looks at it as a tool of innovation. It is through our continent that people realize that telephone can be a whole financial services platform” She said.

“And our continent has been integrated into financial inclusion, because through the mobile phone they can engage in banking services.

“This is indicating to the world that we are not condemned to being a mediocratic continent,” Ezekwesili added.

Ezekwesili, hence called on the African leaders to develop the Gross Domestic Products (GDPs) of their countries, for the forth coming generations.
