Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter has called on the state governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to use the occasion of the celebration of his 54th birthday to touch the lives of the less privileged in the society like some people in privileged positions used to do.
The party made the call on Wednesday in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesperson, Mr Taofik Gani, while congratulating the governor on his birthday which was yesterday (Tuesday).
PDP said it expected Governor Sanwo-Olu to announce some largesse, including free education as well as slashing of school fees by 60per cent especially in tertiary institutions, even as it noted that till now his campaign promise to give free internet service to the people had yet to be met.
“It is usual that the birthday celebration is used by the privileged to touch the lives of less privileged. Like other governors would announce largesse for their people, we expected Mr Sanwo-Olu to declare free education in the state; announce 60% slash in especially the tertiary institutions,” PDP said.
“Till now his campaign promise to give free internet service has not been fulfilled,” the party recalled.
According to it, these and many other social impacts are possible to achieve within 14 working days, saying it just continued to get apparent that the governor was not set for the demands of his office.
“These and many other social impacts are possible to achieve within 14 working days. It just continues to get apparent that the governor is not set for this job and the circumstantial actions inherent,” the party said.
It, however, cautioned the governor not to attempt any prodigal celebration either by proxy, threatening to petition the State House of Assembly on the need “to probe such misapplication of state resources” that might arise from such venture.
