Family searches for mentally disturbed Sudanese woman in Uganda

A relative of a 28—year-old South Sudanese woman, Nyamach Luol who has been receiving treatment at Butabika Hospital in Uganda’s Kampala city says the woman escaped from the mental facility on Monday and her whereabouts are unknown.

Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital in Kampala is Uganda's only referral mental health institution providing specialized care for people with mental illness.

Maiwut state Minister of Information Ngunjock Chuol Dojiok and relative to victim confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that Luol suffered mental illness since 2011.

He said after seeking treatment from various health institutions, Nyamach, a mother of three was transferred to Uganda this year.

Chuol said Nyamach was taken to the hospital last Sunday for overnight observation but when he came on Monday to collect her, he was informed that she and two other patients had escaped.

“Am appealing to all the citizens in Kampala either being Ugandan or South Sudanese that whoever comes across her to kindly report her to any nearby police station,” he added.
