Senator Magnus Abe, former governorship aspirant in Rivers State, has faulted the absence of former Heads of State and Presidents at the 2019 Democracy Day celebration in Abuja.

Abe faulted the past national heads while fielding questions from reporters immediately after the Democracy Day celebration at the Eagle Square on Wednesday.

Recalled that Obasanjo, Jonathan, Gowon, Babangida and other prominent figures were conspicuously missing at the Eagle Square on Wednesday.

The former Representative of Rivers South East senatorial district said it was unfortunate that key players in the contemporary history of Nigeria such as Goodluck Jonathan, Ibrahim Babaginda among others, were missing at the event.

Abe said, “It is significant that we are finally celebrating our democracy on a day that actually has significance to Nigeria’s democracy.

“It is unfortunate that some of the key players in our country’s contemporary history who are still alive like Jonathan, Babangida and others are not physically here today but their absence didn’t diminish the importance of what we’ve done here today.

“Well, they are human beings. You can’t speak for someone who has not spoken.

“They must have reasons why they are not here and it’s good that Nigerians should understand that.

“A lot of these people are now old men and cannot move freely as they should have.

“So until they say why they are not here, we can’t speak for them.

“What is important is that their being or not being here have not in anyway affected what we’ve done here today.”
