Othaya Police of Nyeri County have launched probes to establish the genesis and distributors of leaflets threatening to burn a Bishop and his home.

Othaya Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer, Francis Ngachilla said the detectives have started a probe to establish the author of the leaflets found at Kihuri village in Othaya.

The leaflets warned Bishop Thomas Wahome of Helicopter Ministry that his house and vehicle would be set ablaze failure to withdraw a case in court.

The DCIO said the pastor reported the threats under OB number O.B 40/3/6/2019 at Othaya police station on June 3, 2019, at 7.40p.m.

“He came to our office with a copy of the leaflets and reported the threats. Our officers went to the ground but found none. We are investigating the matter to know the source of the letter," the DCIO told The Standard.

The anonymous authors of the documents, distributed on June 1, warned the televangelist that his children would not be educated in any school around the village, and his mother would be detained from benefiting from the government’s cash transfer program.

 “No shop will be allowed to sell you any goods. You will forget Kihuri or we mobilise people to take serious action. You must obey and follow our instruction without option,” the leaflet reads.

The document further indicated that Wahome would be blocked from getting services at the sub-chief's office.

Wahome said he was taking the threat seriously and had decided to report the matter to enable police to get to the bottom of the matter and those behind the distribution of the leaflets.

"This is the first time I’m receiving such a threat and I do not know who would like to harm my family.

“I have no grudge with anyone apart for a criminal matter that is pending in court,” the bishop explained.
