Wet Season: Nothing less than 5 dead, others missing following Mudslides in Uganda

The Uganda Red Cross had reportedly said nothing less than five people have passed on in mudslides triggered by heavy rains in the east, while several others were said to be missing.

The group had on Wednesday said that its search and rescue teams ploughing through the mud had recovered the bodies and handed them over to police.

Julius Mucunguzi, a spokesman for the prime minister's office, said nothing less than 10 people are nowhere to be found, and many are displaced.

Several villages in the eastern district of Bududa, in the foothills of Mount Elgon, are prone to.

There are reported records of death every year during the wet season.

Uganda's government is encouraging the relocation of some settlers but there is resistance among some settlers who have the enthusiasm to stay in their ancestral region.
