Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Shina T. Olukolu has paraded suspected arms dealers together with other culprits with heinous crimes such as robbery, abduction and cultism.
CP Olukolu made this known at the press briefing held at Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on 20th May, 2019.
The police command, according to the C.P, arrested 15 armed robbers/kidnappers, 2 ammunition dealers/criminal receivers, 13 suspected cultists from diverse tertiary institutions including artisans, in the last few weeks, with number of exhibits like cell phones, sledge hammer, live cartridges, criminal charms, ammunitions, weeds suspected to
be Indian hemp, some amounts of money, two pairs of vigilante uniform, and other illegitimate items used for operation or got from the people after unleashing terror on them.
He revealed that “concerted efforts put up by officers and men of the command in the last few weeks have led to the achievements recorded, in curbing the rate of crimes and misconducts in the state, and country at large”.
The CP added that investigation remains ongoing in respect to the apprehension of other fleeing members of each gang of culprits.
“Upon interrogation, they confessed to have masterminded series of nefarious activities within the metropolis.
“Meanwhile, investigation is still in progress to arrest other fleeing members of the notorious gang. And efforts are been intensified to recover the arms which were used for the criminal activities,” the CP affirmed.
CP Olukolu thereby acknowledged the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Senator Abiola Ajimobi for the immense support towards the resolution to rid the state of crime and criminality, by donating two Mitsubishi pick up patrol vehicles, 60 bullet proof vests, 20 helmets and 40 Stunt guns/Torch to the command for the smooth operation of “Operation Puff Adder” that was launched on 23rd April, 2019.
The CP however, assured the public of a crime-free environment as efforts has been intensified by the Command to rejig its security policies and activities, while emphasing on the need for the masses to work with the force in order to achieve a vast result in having security architecture through community and intelligence led-policing, revamped vehicular patrol, launch of “Operation Puff Adder”, and public partnership to rid criminal activities.
“You will recall that I pleaded with members of the public to assist the Police in the state for assistance to ease the job of policing and equip operatives in the State.
“These additions to our logistics requirement will serve as additional impetus to achieve more. Others can still assist us,” he added.
The Oyo CP remains on lookout together with his team of officers to curb every form of heinous crimes in order to stem the rising wave of criminal activities, with the view to aiding a sustainable peace and security in the state.
