Damir Skomina to oversee Champions League Final

Damir Skomina has been selected as the referee to oversee the Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool, set to hold at Wanda Metropolitano on 1st June, 2019.

The 42-year-old has to his credit number of experiences, in officiating finals of Premier League clubs including the 2017 Europa League final between Ajax and Manchester United, together with the Super Cup between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in 2012.

The Slovenian referee has been in the middle of four Champions League matches this season including one Liverpool match, which he was in charge as Jurgen Klopp's side beat Napoli 1-0 to reach the knockout stage.

Manchester United's comeback win over PSG in the last-16 stage was also overseen by Skomina.

He made headlines after awarding the visiting team a last-minute penalty been clarified by the VAR consulted. PSG star Neymar rebuked him after the decision which saw Man United progressing with Rashford’s brilliant penalty shoot.

Skomina's assistants at the final in the Spanish Capital will be Jure Praprotnik and Robert Vukan. While Antonio Mateu Lahoz will be the fourth official.

The video assistant referee will be Dutch ref Danny Makkelie, who will be supported by Pol van Boekel, Felix Zwayer, and Mark Borsch.
