Nneka Donatus, the 27-year old single mother who sold her day-old baby girl purportedly after her birth has been apprehended by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command.
Donatus sold the child on March 29, 2019 to a couple after the birth of the child on 28th of March.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the command headquarters in Owerri, Donatus professed that part of the takings was used to buy slippers, wrapper and phone. Which she claimed the remaining of the takings was to be used to starting a business.
“I sold my baby girl for N600,000 and used N15,000 from the money to buy a phone, wrapper and slippers and transported myself back home.
“I asked Nneoma Onwusereaka and her husband, who had the balance to use it to start a business for me. I have five children already and I am separated from my former husband.” She added in her indigenous language.
The state Ministry of Women Affairs level 12 civil servant , 40-year old Ujunwa Udechukwu who purportedly conspired with Donatus in selling the baby to a couple has also been apprehended.
Udechukwu conceded of her mistake, conjoining that N10,000 was paid into her account the following day.
It was thereby reported by the police force that the baby was sold on 29th of March for N600, 000 at Ezinachi in the Okigwe LGA of Imo State, a day after the birth of the baby girl on 28th of March.
