Delta-based renowned researcher, Dr. Fred Atigbi has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for not signing the Free Africa Trade Agreement, describing the President’s decision as a step in the right direction.

He opined that “If he (President Buhari) signed it, Nigeria will be importing everything in this country.”

Atigbi spoke at a Public Lecture in Warri where other researchers comprising, Dr. Ovie Ovedje (Agriculturist), L.E.Akpede (Environmentalist) and Emiaso D., warned that there can be no meaningful development in Nigeria without research in the various disciplines of human endeavors.

The researchers said if Nigeria must make progress and develop, it must embark on researches.

They lamented that Nigeria as a nation does not produce anything but solely rely on the consumption of imported products/goods into the Country.

The researchers regretted that already researched works are not being implemented by the relevant authorities. They insisted that if Nigeria must grow and developed it must embark on research.

They said the research findings must be implemented for the improvement of the economy.

In his remarks, Ovedje also urged Nigerians to do more research, stressing, “Don’t always accept things the way they are.”
