LATEST! Nigeria elected into UN women conference panel

UN- Nigeria has been elected as a member of the communication committee of the United Nations 63rd Conference on the Status of Women (UNCSW), in New York.

The chair, 63rd UNCSW, Madam Geraldine Byrne, revealed this at the ongoing meeting of the commission which held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York said, the election of Nigeria to serve in the communication committee is in recognition of the country’s leading commitment in the struggle for the elimination of all forms of violence against women in Africa.

In a statement delivered at the conference, on behalf of the African Union (AU), Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development (FMWASD), Hajia Aisha Abubakar, said Nigeria will never relent in her quest to make the country and indeed Africa a gender-friendly society.

The minister who presented a second statement, on behalf of the ECOWAS states at the conference also stated that with 66 percent of its population being young people and 52 percent being women, the demographic profile of ECOWAS shows a mainly young and female population.
