Niger: NEMA distributes relief materials to victims of Bida market fire

NEMA - National Emergency Management Agency said it has distributed relief materials to 862 victims of Minna and Bida market fire disasters.

The distribution, according to the Agency’s Head of Operation, Mrs Lydia Wagami was flagged off in Bida.

Fielding questions from journalists Wednesday in Minna, Mrs Wagami, said the relief items were to cushion the effect of the disaster.

According to her, among the relief materials distributed were roofing sheets, bags of cement, ceiling boards and nails.

“The relief materials shows that the Federal government is concerned about the plight of the shop owners who lost their goods, hence government provide relief materials to cushion the effects of the disaster,” she said.

She said that relief materials for Minna market fire were distributed to the victims at the Abdulkadir Kure Ultra Modern Market Minna.

The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Etsu Nupe, who received the relief materials on behalf of the victims for distribution, commended the Federal government and called on government to also support the victims with cash.

He disclosed that government was planning to reconstruct the market to make it more conducive for business activities to strive.

Some of the victims of the disaster also appreciated the federal government for the interventions which they said would greatly reduce their suffering.

Mr Chima Sylva, a victim whose goods were burnt down at the Minna Market, thanked the federal government for the relief materials and said that the gesture will assist the victims to rehabilitate the shops that were burnt.

Also, Malam Mustapha Mohammed, another victim, commended the federal government and said that the intervention would cushion the effects of the disaster.
