The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training and Development), DIG Yakubu Jubril who also doubles as the supervising DIG for the South West geopolitical zone for the 2019 elections has called on Nigerians especially those residing in the South West to go about their normal activities without engaging in any form of violence.

He made the call in a chat with CEOAFRICA on  Saturday following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the elections earlier scheduled for February 16th and March 2nd to February 23rd and March 9th respectively.

According to him, the Police remain on ground to ensure safety of lives and properties and anyone who dares to breach the peace would be decisively dealt with.

He added that rather than resorting to violence, Nigerians should co-operate with the electoral body  and turn out en masse on the rescheduled dates to exercise their civic duties and vote for their preferred candidates.

According to DIG Jubril, as far as the Nigerian Police is concerned their resolve to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections remains the same, noting that the force is fully committed to overseeing a free, fair and credible election.
