Presidential Election: Oyo CP Warns Mischief Makers to Steer Clear

Ahead of tomorrow’s Presidential and National Assembly Elections, Oyo state Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu has warned those planning to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections to steer clear or face the full weight of the law.

He stated this in an exclusive interview with CEOAfrica at state Police command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan on Friday.

"The constitutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force is to ensure protection of lives and properties. Election is one of the civic areas we are to provide security and ensure free, fair and credible polls.At no point are we going to allow criminals to take charge.

 I want to use this medium to warn those that are bent on causing chaos to stay clear as Oyo State Police Command will not tolerate that to happen.  All conduct amounting to breach of law will be decisively dealt with." He said.

On the state of preparedness of the force towards the election, CP Olukolu stated, "let me say with all sense of responsibility and honesty that Oyo state Police Command are combat-ready. We have deployed our men to their places of assignment.

Members of the public need not to exercise any fear as we have put in place security measures to ensure that voters’ safety and security are guaranteed.

"The IG of Police, Mohammed Adamu sent in the DIG-in-charge of training,DIG Yakubu Jubrin to review what we have done so far, which was quite satisfactory to him. "Let me also reveal to you that we are going to deploy the use of covert and overt policing to ensure a hitch free exercise in Oyo State. 

Our patrol teams are ever ready, stationed strategically close to the area where voting will take place.”

In his conclusion, while assuring the good people of the state of their maximum protection, before, during and after the election, the CP urged the people to come out en mass to exercise their franchise as citizens.
