Ogun State Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu has declared that the force is ready to oversee a free, fair and credible election. He made this known on Thursday while addressing critical stakeholders and the men of the Ogun state police command in Abeokuta.

He said, “Saturday is not a day of trouble; it is a day of election. All you need do is come out and cast your vote and then go back home. If you wish to wait for the results, there is an approved distance of 300 metres away from the polling unit. All you need do is to conduct yourself in an orderly manner. We can assure you that all necessary security arrangements are on ground. The Police are up and doing with the support of all other sister organisations to give a very credible, free and fair election.”

He also admonished the men of the police force to show professionalism in their conduct.

“You have been hearing of vote buying and vote selling, please do not allow that to happen in your units. You all know the electoral laws and you know some of the powers you have as a police officer, let that be your guide. Also be very neutral, provide a level playing ground for everybody. Police officers belong to no political party. You also need to arrive at your polling unit very early to avoid delays in the take off of the elections,” he noted.

He also expressed gratitude to the DIG in-charge of training and development, Force Headquarters Abuja, DIG Yakubu Jubrin who is also the supervising DIG in-charge of the South West geopolitical zone for the forthcoming elections, who was in Abeokuta to assess the level of preparation towards the election.
