Music they say is a universal language, enjoying wide reach and acceptance transcending far beyond the cultures of the originators. Music artistes enjoy a lot of followership and therefore hold so much influence. Music overtime has also become a money-spinning business with artistes raking in lucrative endorsement deals, massive album sales plus huge revenues from concerts too.

We take a look at the Richest Music artistes in Africa in 2019, their net worth and country of origin.

1.            Akon

Occupying the top spot as the richest African artiste is Senegalese-America artiste, Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam popularly known as Akon. Akon is a singer, song writer, producer and CEO of Konvict Muzic. Akon had his major break with the release of his debut album – Trouble in 2004. Akon has 5 Grammy nominations to his name as well as a total of 45 Billboard Hot 100 songs and several awards. He is estimated to be worth $80M according to Forbes.

2.            Black Coffee

Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo best known as Black Coffee DJ is a legendary South African DJ, record producer, singer-songwriter. He started his career around 1994 and has released 5 albums with local and international collaborations. Black has made immense fortune through his music, he is considered South Africa’s richest musician with an estimated net worth of $60M.

3.            Don Jazzy

Micheal Collins Ajereh or Don Jazzy as he is famously known is a Nigerian singer and music producer. He is the President and Founder of Mavin Records (Supreme Marvin Dynasty). Don Jazzy has been among the A-list in the Nigerian music scene for a while now. He has worked with big name artistes locally and internationally. His net worth stands at $35M, and that is expected to be hugely boosted with the multi-million dollar equity investment global strategic partnership deal his organization secured a few days ago with Kupanda Holdings.

4.            Wizkid

Wizkid, with the birth name – Ayodeji Balogun is one of the biggest music exports from Nigeria. He is the CEO of Starboy record label. Wizkid is a singer and songwriter; he started recording music at the age of 11. He released his debut studio album – Superstar in 2011 under former label, Empire Mates Entertainment.  He has gone on to released several big hits including ‘Ojuelegba’. Wizkid has seen his stock rise considerably since his STARBOY record label was founded. Wizkid have had big collaborations

with several  international artistes, won several awards and sealed lucrative deals with MTN and Pepsi among several others. He is estimated to be worth $20M.

5.            Davido

Following closely to Wizkid, is the CEO of DMW, David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido whose networth stands at $16M. Davido took the Nigerian music scene by storm with the release of his debut single ‘Dami Duro’ in 2011. Davido has combined talent with hard work and has seen reward in the form of awards and several lucrative deals.

6.            Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper, Micheal Owusu Addo also known as Sarkodie also features prominently on the list of Africa’s richest artistes for 2019. Sarkodie is the CEO of Sarcess Music, one of the biggest record label in Ghana. Aside his love for music, Sarkodie has also given back to the community through his Sarkodie Foundation which has catered for the welfare of many homeless Ghanaian children. He is currently valued at $7M.
