There is an ongoing debate whether to leave the Ghananian Atewa Forest or convert it into a bauxite mining. While the government is of the opinion for it to be converted into a money yielding firm, the people are at the opposite end agitating it should be used for tourist centre instead of mining firm
Ghanaian citizens, against the menace have affirmed the immediate need to secure the nations heritage and water sources for a well living today and better future. To this effect, some concerned citizens have took to their social media handles to fight for their right, while pleading for some political elites to take their pleas to the table of President Akufo Addo-Akufo.
In other to accomplish these agitations, the citizens believed there is an urgent need for the nation to prioritize “green landscape” development strategies, hence create socio-economic resilient frameworks in order to sustain its developmental agenda.
Against this context, an exhibition was scheduled to hold on Wednesday, with the theme #SAVE ATEWA FOREST. This exhibition is believed to be a tool that will aid educate students of both secondary and higher learning to appreciate their God given natural environment, throw indebt light on ecosystem services and the need to protect nature and the Atewa watersheds, the importance of Atewa Forest Reserve, which report reveals has at least 5 million people in Accra Eastern Region benefiting from its water source.
