Nigerian workers have besieged the National Assembly Complex as the House of Representatives holds a public hearing on the New Minimum Wage Bill today.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last week ‎present the executive bill to the legislature, proposing a new minimum wage of N27,000.

The bill had passed the first and second readings at the Senate and the House on Thursday, while the Spea‎ker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, had said the bill might be passed on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Several lawmakers who spoke on the bill had dismissed the N27,000 as “grossly inadequate” while insisting on N30,000 ‎as recommended by a tripartite committee made up of the government (federal and states), the organised labour and the organised private sector.

More to follow.
