Truth will always find a way of coming out in the open no matter the amount of effort put in to conceal it from the public domain.

The entertainment industry across the world has for a long time been faced with allegations of sexual harassment, molestation, sex abuse, sex for roles and all that.

For ages it has been mere allegations as there have been little or no evidence to substantiate the claims. Offenders not only go scot free but also emboldened to continue in the acts as victims fail to speak out to ‘save face’, protect their reputation and for various other reasons.

Most of the time women find themselves at the receiving end of these rather unfortunate incidences. But as times are changing, more and more victims of sexual assault are beginning to come out to tell their stories especially in the entertainment industry.

Popular American singer and producer, Robert Kelly also known as R. Kelly was charged in 2002 with filming sex acts between him and a 14-year-old girl, but was ultimately acquitted in 2018. The talented music star’s career has been trailed with allegations of him engaging in illicit sexual acts with minors.

A six-hour documentary series released few days ago has now brought to the spotlight the misconduct of the R&B star with several minors.

While the singer has received a lot of knocks since the release of the documentary, he is just one of the many sex predators in the industry.

It would also be recalled that popular American actor and comedian Bill Cosby was convicted of sexual assault early last year after years of allegations from dozens of women.

Back home in Nigeria, while there have been allegations back and forth on issues bothering on sexual harassment in the entertainment industry it has been more in rather hush voices as victims would rather want to stay away from controversies thus giving offenders more wing to fly.

It would be note-worthy to add that this ugly trend is not limited to the entertainment industry alone, it happens in virtually all works of life.

The positive thing is that people are now becoming more aware that silence is not the answer as more and more people lend their voices to fight a common enemy. It is a trend that all well-meaning individual should seek to nip in the bud. Don’t wait till someone you know becomes a victim before lending your voice.
