As part of activities marking the one year in office of Prof. Babalola as Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, a debate tournament was held on Friday among students of College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) and College of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (CAMASS).
The students debated on the ‘Perception of public education as against private education’.
Representing CAMASS, Eni Eduga, Precious Haruna and Olamide Olarenwaju spoke in favour of private education while Kikelomo, Precious Oko and Priscilla Agbelusa all representing CNAS spoke in support of public education.
CNAS was declared winner after an intense debating session with a total score of 130 points as against 125 points for CAMASS. As a show of good sportsmanship, CAMASS students congratulated their opponents on their victory.
The chairman of the occasion, Dr. Amusa commended the speakers, praising their courage, intelligence and bold delivery. It was also announced that prizes will be given to winners during the Christmas carol taking place at the school auditorium on Sunday.
The organizing team also noted that the university will float a debating society and that debating will henceforth be an annual event starting from departmental levels.
In her reaction, Prof. Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, VC of the institution noted that she encouraged debates, poetry and speeches by Pharmacy students while she was Dean of Faculty. Hence, she encouraged students of the institution to take active part in debates stating that it will enhance their marketability.
Football matches were also held between staff and students as part of the activities marking the anniversary.
