Sehwah Liberia Inc./SRDC launches office in Liberia

Sehwah Liberia Incorporated - an international organization with its operating base in Liberia in partnership with Sixth Region Diaspora Caucus, SRDC has launched its office in Liberia.

The occasion which took place recently in Liberia witnessed top dignitaries notable among whom are the former Vice President of Liberia, H.E Joseph Boakai, Former Liberian Minister of Culture and Executive Director of Sehwah Liberia, Hon. Louise Warmenwoah, Project Coordinator for SRDC, Madam Deborah Wright among others.

In her remark, Hon. Warmenwoah stated that 'Sehwah' means for the sake of country, noted that it is for the sake of the country that this partnership was forged and expressed her believe that it would help move Liberia forward.

On her on part, the project coordinator, Madam Deborah Wright thanked the former Minister and her team for envisioning a public library for Liberia, adding that SRDC was glad to be in Liberia to initiate it as their first project in the country.

She said, "A nation which desires growth must recognize the importance of Library as a tool for enriching the school curriculum and advancing the education agenda of the nation and that's one of the reasons why we are here - to support the idea of a library and to implement it.

"The Library is established  and supported by the community, the community provides access to knowledge and information through a wide array of resources and services which is available equally to all members of the community regardless of age, gender, religion, economic and employment status, which means anybody within the community can use it anytime they want."

Madam Wright added that public library is a global phenomenon which will enable informal education opportunities for citizens in the community to enrich individuals in different subject areas.

"At SRDC, we are a pan-African organization, we believe in reaching out to our brothers and sisters and that is one of the reasons why we are here.

The SRDC team has already begun the process of gathering wonderful books for the Library. We are just getting started, it’s going to be hard work but we are excited by this challenge," she stated.

Meanwhile, former Liberian Vice President, Joseph Boakai who was also the chief launcher of the day commended the efforts of the Executive Director of Sehwah Liberia Inc. and former Minister of Culture of Liberia, Hon. Louise Warmenwoah in initiating the alliance with Sixth Region Diaspora Caucus for the betterment of the country.

He gave the commendation recently at the launching of the Sehwah Liberia Inc. office in Liberia, describing her as a woman of substance.

"A lot of people go to other countries and forget where they come from, but

I want to thank people who see good things in other countries and bring them back home. Its good to have people who share visions like you and want good things for their country, " he said.

Ambassador Boakai further thanked Hon. Warmenwoah for the interested she has shown and encouraging the people from diaspora to come and contribute towards the development of Liberia.

He called on Africans to join hands to see to the development of Africa noting that there is still so much to be done.

"Everywhere you go you see Africans contributing to the growth of the sector they find themselves in, isn't it about time we contribute to our own?, our children need access to quality education, we need to empower our youths and women too," he said.
