ACALAN proposes week of African language

African Academy of Languages ACALAN has proposed January 24 to 30 as the Week of African Languages to commemorate, reflect and organise programs to promote African languages.

The Executive Secretary of ACALAN, Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha made this known at the closing session of the workshop on 'Harmonization of Kinyarwanda/Kirundi, Kiswahili, Luganda, Malagasy and Somali Vehicular Cross-border Languages' in Kampala on Saturday.

According to him, ACALAN made the proposal to African Ministers of Culture Youths and Sports of the AU member states at the recent biennial scientific and technical meeting of the ministers which the ministers endorsed at the end of the meeting.

Dr. Lang Fafa added that the Academy will communicate with the relevant organs before the said date on the Academy's plans to launch the Week of African Languages.
