The Executive Secretary of the African Academy of Languages, ACALAN, Dr. Lang Dampha Fafa has called on the head of states of ACALAN member states to continue to support the academy.
He made the call in an interview with CEOAfrica in Abidjan recently. He stated that ACALAN which is a specialized institution of an inter-governmental institution which is the African Union, AU relies on funds from member states.
He said, "ACALAN relies on funds from the member states of AU, organizations and individuals in form of cooperate social responsibilities. We are urging our decision makers, head of states whose pan-African views established ACALAN. The statutes of ACALAN were adopted by the head of states of the member states of AU during the 6th ordinary session in Khartoum, Sudan in 2006.
"The same head of states adopted the linkage between culture and education and have been helping us. ACALAN is indeed a specialized institution as it is the only institution that deals with language matters on the continent.
We are therefore urging our member states, the ministries of culture of the member states, organizations, individuals to support ACALAN in its visibility campaigns, in its endeavors to mobilize resources so that our projects which are the back bone of African development can be sustained."
He expressed optimism that member states of ACALAN will continue to support the academy to mobilize resources needed to execute its various projects.
