The lawmaker representing Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency of Oyo state, Hon. Olatoye Temitope Sugar has defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC to the Action Democratic Party, ADP.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the house of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Hon. Sugar expressed displeasure with regards to the high handedness of the party leadership which has resulted to cracks within the party.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser to the lawmaker on Strategy & Public Communications, Dr. Olatunde Amusat noted that Hon. Olatoye Sugar would not be tossed around against the wishes of the of the people.

He further sounded a note of warning that the general good of the majorityof the people should not be sacrificed on the alter of sentimentality an inordinate ambition of a few.

According to the statement, "Hon. Sugar through a well articulated consultations with constituents and adherents of core values of integrity, honesty, transparency, rule of law and the dictates of modern democracy ]within  and beyond his constituency therefore decided to migrate from the shrine of intimidation and fear to the alter of political liberation anchored on the Omoluabi values."

Speaking on his decision to dump the APC for ADP, Hon. Sugar said, "In all honesty, I cannot continue to patronize a political party where it';;s leadership has deliberately programmed others to be politically anonymous and estranged having worked tireless and identified with the masses driven by our direct positive impacts on the socioeconomic well being of our people and my conscience will not permit me to sacrifice principles for expediency.

"I have given substance to true meaning to selfless service for my constituents and beyond."
