The Director, Archives and Documentation Centre Unilorin and member of council, Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN), Professor Sam Aghalino has once again highlighted the relevance of history in any nation building process.

Speaking at the Professor CBN Ogbogbo inaugural lecture in Ibadan recently stressed the need to go back to tradition if we must develop.

According to him, "history is at the core of any nation's development, if you neglect it, you do so at your own peril. We must go back to tradition if we must develop".

Speaking on the inaugural lecture, Aghalino said, "It was a marvelous one, a rude awakening. It sounded a note of warning to all historians and Nigerians in general that negligence of history is detrimental towards growth and development of the country".

Also, speaking of the "Bring back history" project, Prof. Aghalino stated that a nation without history is like a rudderless ship. He commended the Federal government, adding that they (federal government) have done the right thing by bringing back history to the classroom. He opined that most of the challenges we are having in the country is because we are not conscious of our history.

"I see the reintroduction of history back to our schools as a major revolution for the growth and development of this country. The reintroduction of history is a major pillar of nation building," he noted.

He described Prof. Ogbogbo as a bosom friend, a goal getter. He said, " he is emotionally intelligent and don't forget he is the President of HSN and he is a man that each time he sets out to do anything, he does it with a revolutionary zeal and the results have manifested in the bring back history to our class rooms which effectively is taking place this September.
