ACALAN set to launch online TV

The African Academy of languages (ACALAN) is set to launch its online TV. The launching is expected to take place at the meeting of experts on African languages in Lome, Togo between 24th and 28th October 2018 . With the lunch of ACALAN online TV, millions of Africans and lovers of African languages across the world , will have the opportunity to be part of the meeting African Languages expects. 

The launching of the  ACALAN online TV was part of resolutions reached at the just concluded meeting of experts for the identification of equipment and installation of the Pan-African school for translation and interpretation in Bamako, Mali.

The move is aimed at promoting African languages in cyberspace, integration and development.

As part of deliberations at the meeting, African languages are expected to be integrated as instructional languages in the education sector.

The Acting Executive Secretary of ACALAN , Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha expressed his delight at the development which he described as " long overdue and a dream come true".

Senior Program and Project Officer of ACALAN,  Dr. Ojo Babajide Johnson also reiterated the need for the online TV stating that it would serve as a vehicle to hand over  African languages to the younger generation  while also broadening the usage of the languages.

The Academy is also set to establish the Pan-Africa school of Interpretation and Translation which would be another landmark achievement by ACALAN. The school will train young Africans in the profession of translation and interpretation which will enable African languages become true working languages.

The CEOAfrica digital media expert, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor who was  part of the meeting revealed that the meeting was a huge success and is looking forward to the implementation of the resolutions which he believes would restore African languages in its rightful place among the committee of nations.

The African Academy of Languages (ACALAN), a subsidiary of African Union mandated to promote African languages, was established in 2001.
