‘Nigerians paid more for petrol, kerosene in August’- Official

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, many Nigerians paid more for petroleum products, including Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and household kerosene, last month.

The average price paid by consumers for petrol increased by 1.7 per cent year-on-year and 0.1 per cent month-on-month to N146.90 per litre in August from N146.80 in July.

By statistics, states with the highest average price of petrol were Borno (N157), Kebbi (N152.94) and Kwara (N152.86), while Ekiti, Katsina and Bauchi recorded the lowest average prices of N144.23, N144.08 and N143.89, respectively.

The average price per litre paid by consumers for kerosene increased by 4.29 per cent month-on-month and 28.04 per cent year-on-year to N288.75 in August from N276.87 in July, the NBS data showed.

States with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Abuja (N333.33), Yobe (N332.86), and Enugu (N326.67), while Borno, Abia and Kogi recorded the lowest average prices of N237.61, N237.08 and N233.33, respectively.

The NBS said the average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder with Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, increased by 2.17 per cent month-on-month and 3.19 per cent year-on-year to N2,054.14 in August from N2,010.45 in July.

It said, “States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder with the LPG were Bauchi (N2,490), Borno (N2,400) and Gombe (N2,354.55). States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder with the LPG were Kaduna (N1,825), Kano (N1,800) and Enugu (N1,791.11).

“Similarly, the average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder with the LPG increased by 2.88 per cent month-on-month and eight per cent year-on-year to N4,366.48 in August 2018 from N4,244.35 in July 2018.”

According to the NBS, the average price paid by consumers for Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) increased by 1.79 per cent month-on-month and 5.99 per cent year-on-year to N207.98 in August from to N204.32 in July.
