A Heavy downpour which resulted to flood, Wednesday flushed six tricycles popularly known as keke into River Niger and chased residents away from their homes in Asaba.
Although, no death was reported, it was learnt that the entire Infant Jesus, Phase 11, and DLA residents were thrown into disarray as their houses and properties were taken over by the flood.
Thieves, in spite of the heavy down pour, defied the situation to take advantage of the affected residents’ predicament and robbed them at gun point.
One of the victims at Infant Jesus road, Mrs Patricia Mokego, who spoke to our correspondent said, “the flood took over my property, destroyed my things, everything I have in my house was destroyed, and I have no place to be sleeping for now, the flood was too much, I am appealing to the state government to come to my aid.”
John Achei, a tricycle operator, and victim, who spoke to journalist said “flood swept my keke into the River Niger from where I parked it, I could do nothing, it’s a problem to us here in Asaba, government should please do something to help us.”
Speaking to journalists in Asaba earlier on Tuesday, the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Barr, John Nani, had assured Deltans of the state government’s commitment with a view to arresting the menace, and warned that deviants blocking the drains, would soon be brought to book.
