NIGERIA POLICE INVESTIGATES THE DEATH OF POLICE OFFICER/TRADER IN LAGOS STATE

The Lagos State Police Command has resumed the investigations on the killing of a police corporal, Ado Ayuba, who was lynched by some hoodlums in Suru Alaba area of the state.

The dead police, beaten to death by the angry mob was deployed to scene together with another policeman on July 30, 2013, to drive away traders who had illegally taken over a portion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Trading activities at the area where he was alleged to have killed the trader, Mustapha Mohammed, usually caused congestion. Meanwhile some residents, motorist and Construction Company working on the road were all said to have appealed to the government to check the inconveniences caused by the traders.

On the day of the incident however, Ayuba and his colleague were said to have been overpowered by the traders, forcing Ayuba to open fire into the crowd and eventually killing the trader, Mustapha Mohammed.

Ayuba’s colleague fled having seen the turnout of things, leaving Ayuba at the mercy of the hoodlums who seized ayuba with his gun, beating him up to unconscious state, having outnumbered the soldiers who attempted to rescue the policeman at the scene.

Ayuba and Mohammed were said to have been rushed to hospital afterwards, where they were confirmed dead.

Ngozi Braide, the Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, has revealed that the matter is still under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba where it was transferred.
