HSN which was established in 1955 at the then University college Ibadan now the University of Ibadan with the aim to vigorously promote, support, strengthen and uphold the study of Nigerian History and all Historical scholarship among others is collaborating with the Department of History and war studies.

The Nigeria Defence Academy which is the foremost Defence Academy in West African region founded in the year 1964 for the purpose of training officers for Armed forces of Nigeria.

The military has remained one of the most enduring institutions in the History of Nigeria and apart from being a critical factor in the processes that birthed the nation, it has continued to play a role in her continued existence.

The department of war studies established in the year 1962 is devoted to the multi-disciplinary study of war, history and diplomacy within the broad remit of international relations.
