Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has said that all the over 200 communities in the State have benefited from the various people-oriented developmental programmes and projects.

 

 

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has said that all the over 200 communities in the State have benefited from the various people-oriented developmental programmes and projects executed by his administration in the last 33 months.

 

The Governor who made this known in Usi Ekiti during the town’s Day celebration, explained that the N300 million grants-in-aid recently disbursed to 82 communities for different self-help projects is part of ways to develop all the communities in the State; adding that the fund was doled out to the communities for the execution of their priority projects.

 

Governor Fayemi explained that the grants-in-aid initiative, which was conceived for communities to personal execute priority needs is another way of ensuring participatory and accountable government as the communities themselves choose contractors and pace of work on their projects.

 

He noted that the initiative has got some commendations from different quarters as people believe that community funds cannot be embezzled by any individual because it is meant for all the community and the state government is making effeorts to distribute the funds to the second batch of beneficiaries.

 

 

The Governor also highlighted other projects which have benefited almost all communities to include the 5km road projects in all the 16 local government areas of the state, saying that another round of 80 km road would soon be commenced before the end of the year as the first round is almost completed in all the benefiting communities.

 

He also assured of the security of lives and property of citizens through the provision of peace corps to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police.
