NDLEA apprehends native doctor with Indian hemp farm

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kebbi State has arrested a 55-year-old native doctor, Arage Rikici, with a cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) farm at Kukin village in Fakai Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commandant of the NDLEA, Suleiman Jada, while speaking with journalist on the arrest, said operatives of the agency on July 24, based on intelligence report discovered the hemp farm at a village called Kukun in Fakai area of the state.

He said the hemp farm had been destroyed, he added that the suspected owner was arrested and  is undergoing investigation.

While answering questions from journalists, the suspect said he ventured into farming Indian hemp because of his old age and health condition. “I can hardly move my two legs that have stiffened. I planted it in my farm very close to my house and I hired boys to farm the Indian hemp for me,” he said.

The suspect said he brought the Indian hemp seed to the state during one of his trips to Benin Republic.
