2019: Oshiomhole gives Ngige, Sirika seven days to Inaugurate Ministries’ Boards

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, and Hadi Sirika, Minister of State for Aviation, within which to inaugurate all the boards under their ministries or face the wrath of the party.

The ultimatum is contained in letters addressed to the ministers, and dated July 11, 2018, wherein the APC national chairman frowned at the ministers’ failure to reconstitute the boards several months after approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Comrade Oshiomhole said the action of the ministers was an affront to the position of the National Executive Council and the subsequent presidential directives to all ministers, describing it as a great disrespect to the party.

The letter reads, “This is to inform you that the attention of the National Working Committee (NEC) has been drawn to your refusal to inaugurate members of the re-constituted boards under the supervision of your ministry.

“This contravenes the position of the NEC, national caucus and the presidential directives to all ministers to inaugurate boards of parastatals under their ministries. We find this attitude as disrespect to the president and disservice to our great party.

“The party will henceforth no longer tolerate any appointee of government at all level who continues to willfully disregard lawful instructions from either the government or the party.

“In the light of the forging, you are hereby directed to inaugurate all the boards under your ministry within one week, failure of which the party will take appropriate disciplinary measures against you”.

It would be recalled that on February 27, Buhari directed all ministers to inaugurate the boards of various parastatals under their supervision.

The president issued this directive through a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

The circular had directed all ministers to proceed with the inauguration of the boards on or before Friday, March 9 and that report of the inauguration exercise should reach the Office of the SGF not later than March 16.

Buhari had, in December 2017, appointed 209 board chairmen and 1,258 board members, but discrepancies in some of the names that appeared on the list led to criticism from members of the public.

Some persons on the list were deceased; others claimed that they were not aware of their appointments by the presidency, while a few others turned down their nominations.

The delay to inaugurate board of directors into the respective aviation and labour agencies more than three years after the government came on board has caused disquiet in labour and aviation sectors.
